Freedom of speech is not a licence to spread hatred, it is a responsibility to ensure that our words and actions are not harmful. Freedom of speech is something to uphold by being conscientious, not something to cheapen by being a hatemonger and insisting it is all done under the banner of some inalienable right to be a dick.

If you want to make a difference in society, stop pretending that hate crimes are the fault of those who try to prevent them, or that those who will not tolerate even the hate speak that is at the root of those hate crimes are to blame.

These are all interesting points you make: tolerance is incitement to racial violence (I never knew!) and the best way to deal with hate crime is to pretend it isn't there (wow!).

Hahaha. all religion is negative and has done nothing to benefit the world so personally I see no problem with an anti-religious band playing. I think some have labeled that band anti-semetic simply because they attack judaism aswell as the usual ones e.g christianity which for some reason is perfectly acceptable.

Actually, incitement to hatred is against the law, according to the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred act of 1989:

"1.—(1) In this Act—
"broadcast" means the transmission, relaying or distribution by wireless telegraphy or by any other means or by wireless telegraphy in conjunction with any other means of communications, sounds, signs, visual images or signals, intended for direct reception by the general public whether such communications, sounds, signs, visual images or signals are actually received or not;

"hatred" means hatred against a group of persons in the State or elsewhere on account of their race, colour, nationality, religion, ethnic or national origins, membership of the travelling community or sexual orientation;

"written material" includes any sign or other visual representation.
(2) In this Act—

• ( a ) a reference to any enactment shall, unless the context other wise requires, be construed as a reference to that enactment as amended or extended by any subsequent enactment,

• ( b ) a reference to a section is a reference to a section of this Act unless it is indicated that reference to some other enactment is intended,

• ( c ) a reference to a subsection or paragraph is a reference to the subsection or paragraph of the provision in which the reference occurs unless it is indicated that reference to some other provision is intended.

2.—(1) It shall be an offence for a person—

• ( a ) to publish or distribute written material,

• ( b ) to use words, behave or display written material—

• • (i) in any place other than inside a private residence, or

• • (ii) inside a private residence so that the words, behaviour or material are heard or seen by persons outside the residence,

• • or

• ( c ) to distribute, show or play a recording of visual images or sounds,

if the written material, words, behaviour, visual images or sounds, as the case may be, are threatening, abusive or insulting and are intended or, having regard to all the circumstances, are likely to stir up hatred.
( 2 ) ( a ) In proceedings for an offence under subsection (1), if the accused person is not shown to have intended to stir up hatred, it shall be a defence for him to prove that he was not aware of the content of the material or recording concerned and did not suspect, and had no reason to suspect, that the material or recording was threatening, abusive or insulting.

• ( b ) In proceedings for an offence under subsection (1) (b), it shall be a defence for the accused person—

• • (i) to prove that he was inside a private residence at the relevant time and had no reason to believe that the words, behaviour or material concerned would be beard or seen by a person outside the residence, or

• • (ii) if he is not shown to have intended to stir up hatred, to prove that he did not intend the words, behaviour or material concerned to be, and was not aware that they might be, threatening, abusive or insulting.

(3) In this section "private residence" means any structure (including a tent, caravan, vehicle, vessel or other temporary or moveable structure) or part of such a structure used as a dwelling but does not include any part not so used or any part in which a public meeting is being held; and in this definition "public meeting" means a meeting at which the public are entitled to be present, on payment or otherwise and as of right or by virtue of an express or implied permission."

The Lower Deck is not a private residence. Freedom of speech does not extend to spreading hatred outside of the confines of your own lonely little bedsit. This means hatred on the basis of any religious belief (or, in my view, lack thereof, which would extend to discrimination against atheists). You are free to jack off to a swastika, but not in front of anyone but your other neo-Nazi mates. People in this country, for a very long time, were persecuted for their religious affiliation, so, before you go waving your crooked cross in the name of free speech, how about you have a look at what the law says?

I couldn't have any breakfast this-morning cos there was no milk for my cerial. I quite hungry at the moment. Im going to have to remember to buy a Doorstep Slice Pan and a Litre of Milk so I can have Tea and Toast and a Bowel of Weetabix when I go home for my luncheon.

In anyways inanyways, if the Lower Deck allows the gig to go on, they are in clear violation of the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred, as well as the Equality Act of 1998, and the Equal Status Acts of 2000 and 2004.

If you feel that limiting your ability to spread hatred on any basis is a violation of your rights, you are free to take your case to the Equality Authority.
