Dear Friends,
Welcome to the latest issue of the Anthology Books newsletter, our way
of staying connected to those of you who are interested in good
literature from small presses, alternative and progressive sources.
Our Dublin city centre bookstore is open Tuesday through Saturday, from
10 AM until 9 PM, and on Sunday from Noon until 6 PM. We continue to
increase our stock of books, CDs and DVDs, and our shelves are
gradually
filling up. Anthology is located in the Studio Building on Meeting
House
Square in Temple Bar. You are welcome into the bookstore, have a cup of
coffee on the house, and browse to your heart's content.
You can also find Anthology Books online at
http://www.anthologystore.com.
Upcoming events include a reading by Irish author Emma Donoghue from
her
new novel Life Mask, on Wednesday, 28 July, at 7 PM. Ms. Donoghue’s
latest offering is a historical novel set in 1790s London, and tells
the
story of a love triangle among the elite, those who lived in the
overlapping worlds of art, the theatre, sport and politics.
On Thursday, 29 July, at 7:30 PM, New York writer Matthew Sharpe will
read from his award-winning novel The Sleeping Father. The Sleeping
Father begins with a divorced dad who inadvertently combines two
incompatible anti-depressant medications, goes into a coma, has a
stroke, and emerges with brain damage. His teenage son, the protagonist
of the book, Chris, and his teenage daughter, Cathy, decide to
rehabilitate him on their own. The story is told with a precise
combination of intelligent wit, deadpan humour, and heartfelt pathos.
Spoken word poet Kimberly Dark will perform at Anthology on Wednesday,
4
August, at 7 PM. Ms. Dark is a California slam poet whose performances
focus on issues of gender identity and feminism. All events at
Anthology
are free and open to the public.
Please feel free to send recommendations for books, authors, CDs and
other items you would like to see at Anthology. Please come visit us in
our new location at Meeting House Square.
Cheers,
Cecilia Dougherty
