Anarchist Youth call it a day. (1 Viewer)

will be very interesting to see how / if the policies of the WSM change with all these new members seeing how internal debate followed by sticking to an agreed line in public is their policy.

That's not really how it works. We have collectively agreed positions on things like the north, feminism etc. They're always open to debate, question and change. You don't have to fully agree with every position to join but we're not a synthesist or "big tent" group trying to bring together people with a completely disparate set of ideas and goals.

wonder what steps will be put in place to ensure that the power imbalance between older more experiencesd members and these new youth are addressed so as its not just a case of the youth ending spouting the party line they didnt get an equal debate on.

We have constant educationals and as we're currently creating 3 new dublin branches we have a healthy mix of older and youn members. That said it's not like the people coming to the wsm from AY are incapable of critical thought, WSM is an open and welcoming organisation like there's no conspiracy to trick these youth into following a party line. We are constantly getting new members so we make sure to organise in a way that includes people with all levels of experience.

from what i remember such age based power inequalities in anarchist groups was one of the reasons for a youth specific group being set up in the first place.

The same people who started AY moved to dissolve into the WSM, obviously feeling a gap had been bridged.

hopefully this wont mean its just a new load of people posting as "WSM ( but in a personal capacity)" on indymedia - very annoying - if your into being part of a group with an agreed party line please stick to it - it makes it much less confusing for the rest of us.

We believe, as anarchists, that no one person is bigger than the organisation, people can't just go represent our ideas on specific topics without having a democratic discussion on how people in the organisation actually feel about said topic. We post in a personal capacity but as members of the WSM. If you want our official democratically decided stance on something then you can't get it from just one member.

I think you'll find that is the norm throughout the world in anarchist and any other political groups (actual anarchist groups & not dumpster diver collectives and whatnot) to post in a personal capacity. We don't have leaders or official spokesmen.
