So apparently the guy was trying to overthrow the government when his group was rumbled and the Bolivians tried to take him in. Not much is known so the Times dug up a whole load of stuff from his Bebo and Facebook pages.

It does stink a little bit alright. For one thing I cannot imagine a man with no miltary training thinking he could shoot his way past the Bolivian police. He sounds to me like a bit of a Walter Mitty who got caught up with some serious hombres. The theories on this one will run and run.

Bolivian police said a cache of weapons was discovered in the hotel after a 30-minute shoot-out but other reports suggest the men were surprised by the police raid and shot unarmed. Graphic pictures show the men lying dead in their underwear in the hotel and other pictures show one of the dead men with his hands tied.

The plot thickens. The DFA emphasising the fact he had no criminal record is the diplomatic equaivalent of claiming Morales pulled the trigger himself. They obviously have some hard evidence of some serious shenanagins.

i don't think that's accurate. Galway crowd he worked with had their license suspended last year. Seems like he signed up for whatever was in Bolivia himself, wasn't sent there
