Albums / Bands you loved that you have grown to hate? (1 Viewer)

I kind of operate in this manner. I don't pay a lot of attention to debut albums/new acts figuring that if people still care about them in a few years time they must be worth listening to and I'll catch up with them then.

Upside: I don't accumulate tons of albums that I don't listen to after two months.

Downside: I often miss out on seeing acts live that I later come to love
Other downside: I don't have a fucking clue what's going on ....

this has been my modus operandi for the last two years... i applaud it...

That's what I do too. Additional upside: catching up is often cheaper than buying the albums when first launched - although that's offset by the fact that their ticket prices for live shows have probably gone up.

I used to really like Sigur Ros but now I couldn't give a damn about them . I can pinpoint almost the exact moment when I stopped caring too - it was when they looked like they couldn't give a shit during the Olympia show.

I have sold off most of my SR vinyl at this stage - including getting GBP70 for Takk... Score!

this is correct... it is the result of a couple of years of trying to be ahead of the curve... i THOUGHT i loved them at the time...

since that point, i have seen the error of my ways after noticing it is a seemingly permanent affliction to those jim carroll blogging community type personages...

I think I might start a band called Jim Carroll's Circle Jerk.

Hmm, Irish Jim Carroll's Circle Jerk doesn't have the same ring to it.

Ha, good idea for a thread. I don't have too many of these. I tend to get into bands and stick with them (usually through thick and thin). My collection has hardly any one offs.

Although. JP Harvey.

The Choice Music Prize's Jim Carroll's Circle Jerk?

Less Talented and Less Charismatic Than A Bad Drug-poem Writing Corpse's Jim Carroll's Circle Jerk?

I don't think i've ever stopped liking a band.

I've stopped listening to them or they've started releasing rubbish stuff but going from like to dislike....... hmmm

I am beginning to have contempt towards The Flaming Lips.
Not sure I ever really liked them a lot anyway, but I definitely am sick on Wayne Coyne's voice.
That said I bought the last album and it is very good except for Wayne Coyne's voice.
Maybe they could go instrumental....

Jim Carroll of the Ticket and his Sphere of Influence

This is the one song I like from the Drums.

I think I misunderstood the idea of this thread. It's not bands that were good but have now gone crap, it's stuff that you used to enjoy listening to that you don't anymore. Excuse my brain. I suppose I liked Michael Jackson when I was seven. Some of the Cure stuff. I used to be obsessed with them, but now I think they've got two great albums, 17 Seconds and Disintegration, and everything else is too hit-and-miss and/or dated.

Pornography is still great as is Bloodflowers!
The newest one (2008) is also fantastic!

I hope you enjoy listening to them. I know from my own experience, it's great listening to an album you like and everyone has different tastes in music which is one of those things what makes life so interesting and richly varied.
