a wine question... (1 Viewer)

waiter and manager for years and yes people do send it back...and generally theres no point in arguing, tho 90% o' the time the wine was iffy..

screwtops also turn to the darkside

waiters get the 'ah no, its corked...send it back.....ahahhahahaha...only messin...should see your face tho!!' w alarming frequency

you should always ask the waiter/maitre d'/manager to taste it for a 2nd opinion...they'll always agree w you for respecting their authority:cool: and go outta their way to make good...well, mostly

There's a lot that can go wrong with wine.

'Corked' wine has nothing to do with oxidisation or bits of cork. A fungus known as TCA can infect the cork at source and end up tainting the wine.

Then there are things like over suphured wines, which is actually quite common with screw caps. Bacterial infection -if the wine smells of cabbage or something really nasty like burnt rubber this could be the cause. Lots of other stuff, I once had a wine that tasted soapy because the wine maker forgot to rinse out one of the fermenters.

Chances are that we have all happily downed inferior stuff because sometimes the faults can be fairly subtle.

whats the best bottle of red in the €23.50 price bracket?
