THE GIRLS OF SUMMER

A band where music is king and influences make one big lovely stew rather than little finger snacks. "grit-folk", "eirecana", "country-soul" are all vague descriptions at best. Among their varied influences are bands like: Doves, The Band, & Arab Strap, individuals like Bob Dylan, Jonathon Richman, Adem, and Loudon Wainright III and movements like Native Tongue, fairtrade and same-room-recording.

Their debut album, "No Roots, No Tree", (on the www.corksongs.com label), is 45 minutes long and 12 tracks full of songs about people and girls. Equal parts hopeful, bittersweet and yearnful.

Taking their name from one of Arab Strap's best songs, and taking their cue from a myriad of musicians and bands past and present, the girls of summer are an ever evolving group of musicans where everyone brings something to the table. A product of ireland's and the internet's independant music scene, The Girls Of Summer really hope you like what they do, but they're gonna do it anyway. With love in their hearts and bells on their toes they will make sweet soul music wherever they go.

ANTO

Born at the very edge of cancerianism.. (the starting edge of.. or the ending edge of Geminism) in 1979 Anto' spent his early days day-dreaming of space ships, cars and birds.

Not much has changed today apart from the fact that he now has his own album entitled 'Faster' (released in June 2003) and has another on the way in 2005.

At the age of eleven on the advise of his brother he took up drumming and in two years was gigging seven nights a week. Over the next seven years or so Anto' found himself drumming with people such as Paul Harrington, Niamh Kavanagh (Eurovision winners) and Bill Shanley (The Mary Black Band).

In college Anto’ studied Music, Management and Sound Engineering which opened his eyes even further to the music world, and is also where he met current Anto’ member Keith Clancy (bass, percussion, vocals). Lorcan Mac Muiris completes the line-up on trumpet, as Anto’ fronts the band not only as singer, but also as guitarist and drummer.

Moving to Limerick at twenty one after the party years of college he joined 'Catcher and the Rye' which gave Anto' a more serious look at music and during this time learned to play his own style of guitar and piano. Though life was busy gigging with 'Catcher' and also Dawn Kenny and Jennifer Lomasney, Anto' saw fit to move back to West Cork for a slight change of plan.

In 2002 Anto' began writing his own material in the confines of a West Cork house.. and within a year had the most of an album completed and toured with the fantastic singer/songwriter Roesy. Though his first gig wasn't until January of 2003.. his debut album was released shortly after in June of the same year.

Summer was spent travelling Ireland doing radio interviews but the highlight as he recalls was guesting as drummer for Cork band Fred at that year's Witness festival and playing his own slot at the return of the famous Lisdoonvarna.

2004 saw Anto’ playing nationwide shows, and playing in supports with Juno Falls. Irish tour starts in May 2005 to promote second album due out in September.

THE LOSER LOUNGE

New Cork based four piece band, they recently played the 11th Birthday Party Of Freaskscene in Club One.
All style AND all substance...

"Clearly this band are born stars... they completely rocked" - DJ Alan Fadd
