And then threw a few links going back over a decade.

Kees Rijvers (1926 - 4 March 2024)
Rijvers had a fine career as a midfielder which included winning the 1956-57 Ligue 1 with St. Etienne.
He won 33 caps (10 goals).
While playing in France he wasn't allowed play for Holland for several years as the national team didn't allow pro players until mid 1950's.

After managing Twente, Rijvers joined PSV in 1972. He led them to three titles and his 1978 UEFA Cup winning side was the basis of the Dutch team the were runners up in the Argentina World Cup.

From 1981 to 1984 Rijvers managed Holland then in the middle of a poor World Cup qualifying campaign alongside Belgium, France and nearly men Ireland.

Holland met Ireland again in the Euro 84 qualifiers and had seemingly qualified until Spain beat Malta 12-1 (with NINE 2nd half goals) to pip the Dutch on goal difference.
After losing their first Mexico 86 qualifier to Hungary Rijvers resigned.
Holland ultimately failed to qualify after losing a play off to Belgium (who reached semis in Mexico).
Rijvers gave many of the Euro 88 winners their Oranje debuts including Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard and the Koeman Bros.

Found a player better than Le Tissier at penalties. Le Tiss ain't even the best penalty taker born in 1968!
Albanian Ledio Pano had a 100% record - scored 50 out 50.

His father Panajot Pano was voted the best Albanian player of the 20th century.

Antonio Pacheco (1966 - 20 March 2024)
Benfica midfielder who played in two European Cup Final defeats (1988 - lost on pens. after 0-0 to PSV and 1990, lost 1-0 to Milan (Rijkaard goal)).
Pacheco won six Portuguese caps.

Sadly he died suddenly of a heart attack.

Wales 0-0 Poland a.e.t. in Cardiff
Penalties just about to begin.
Poland going first...

Meanwhile back in Poland, Ukraine are celebrating big time in Wroclaw after coming back from a goal down to beat the Icelandics 2-1...

Dynamo Tbilisi had a great team at start of the 1980's w/ Soviet internationals striker Ramaz Shengelia and defender Alexandre Chivadze they were Soviet Champs in 1979, Cup winners in 1980 and won the ECWC in 1981.

Ireland were good in 2nd half v Suisse but as usual didn't score but at least there was a few half chances.

England played Belgium in an off-black colour kit at Wembley while Belgium wore Drogheda's colours - WHAT??

That's a surprise - definitely thought Greece would have done them. Probably a heroic defensive effort from the Georgians.
There was an amazing moment in their previous match against Luxembourg in Tblisi; at 1-0 Georgia, a Georgian attack was stopped by a foul on the edge of the box. The ref waved play on, and Luxembourg counter attacked and scored in the same move, 1-1. The play was then called back to review the foul, which was then rightly awarded, but also merited a red card as it denied a one on one goalscoring opportunity. So instead of 1-1, Luxembourg found themselves back at 1-0 and now with 10 men. Why is this amazing? Because, as one commentator rightly pointed out, the match was in Tblisi – and if that same process had happened with the teams reversed, the match probably would have had to be abandoned because the crowd would have gone absolutely fuckin ballistic!!

Edit: Of course, I'm sure the most famous Georgian of all would be proud of them!!

Larry Lloyd (1948 - 28 March 2024)
Lloyd was an English Champ w/ Liverpool in 1973 and Forest (1978) who he helped from Division 2 in 1977 to become European Champions in 1979 + 1980.

A 6'2" central defender from Bristol, Lloyd was one of many Liverpool lower division discoveries.
He won the League and UEFA Cup in 1973 but lost his place to Phil Thompson and moved on to Coventry in 1974 before joining Forest in 1976.
Brian Clough and Peter Taylor got the best out Lloyd partnering him with Kenny Burns as Forest "robbed from the rich of Europe and gave to the poor of Nottingham".

Larry won 4 caps for England while at Liverpool and Forest 1971-80.

Lloyd joined Wigan in 1981 and managed them to Division 4 promotion. But overseeing Notts County's 1983/84 relegation from Division 1 was his last managerial job.

Larry was later a pundit covering Forest and often featured on TV talking about the Clough and Taylor days. Also I remember Larry working for Forest for a while.

Leverkusen got two late goals to beat Hoffenheim 2-1 and it just finished Bayern 0-2 Dortmund.
Leverkusen now are 13 points ahead on 73 points with 7 matches left

Athletic Bilbao celebrate winning the 2024 Copa del Rey on Saturday night after beating Mallorca 4-2 on pens after a 1-1 draw in the Estadio La Cartuja (Olympico) in Sevilla.
It was their first trophy since doing battle with Maradona in the 1984 Copa Final.
Bilbao had lost all six of their Copa del Rey Finals in the interim.
