inspired by a few comments about the "divisions" in Irish punk/hc I had an idea, just wondering if anyone else might see this working:

I was thinking it might be cool if I organised something where basically anyone currently running a DIY punk/hc label, zine, distro, or gig promotoers got together somewhere (seomra spraoi maybe?) for an afternoon and basically set up a little table or information stand about who they are and what they do. Distro folks and labels I guess could obviously bring stuff to sell, fliers and that kinda thing, zinesters likewise, promoters could bring fliers or info about how they work that kinda thing. It's be kind of like the record swap things that have happened in the past in the warehouse/seomra spraoi before.

It would function as a kind of "open house" for the public where folks who are involved in different subgenres can get to gether to know each other a bit better, and hopefully folks would come down to check it out and find out a bit more about the full range of what's going on. Might be fun to have a dj or some food as well maybe just to add to the buzz.At best, people can come down and broaden their knowledge as to the full extent of punk/hc in dublin and hopefully pick up a few good records or zines, at worst, at least we get to all sit around, have a laugh and talk bollocks for the day.

Would people be interested in this (if you're going to reply "It's a good idea but I don't want to get involved",don't bother)? It wouldn't be happening for a while like, maybe another month or so, but I'd happily take on the responsibility of setting it up.Obviously this would hopefully involve non-Dublin folks too.

Oh, and as far as "What about bands?"..well, bands get to play gigs.Labels and promoters and zinesters don't really get to show their wares that often.

I'd be keen to get the likes of Armed Ambitions, Hideaway House, Skubi, Eamo, and also the Half Shell/Moshspace/PFI types too.

Ideas?

oh, one thing - if this happens, there would obviously have to be some parameter about what constitutes Punk/Hardcore obviously, and in terms of zines I'd specifically only be referring to ones that cover music.Sorry if that excludes anyone, but i'm doing something specifically music related here.

Might be good if there was a meeting on the day, like a talkshop kinda thing where some of the things brought up in the other thread could be bashed out and discussed.

I'd definitely be interested as a networking kinda thing, but it would be essential that people from outside of Dublin would be free to come up for it.

yeh cool.

I'll pass this on to the folks up here and see if they're interested in taking part.

I had a similar idea last year about people doing gigs all around the country getting together and having a big chat at some point, but it never came to anything.
I'd still be up for it though.

Sounds like it could be interesting, definately worthwhile for less experienced folk. And also getting to know others.
I reckon it would definately need people outside of eirecore for it to serve any purpose. Otherwise everyone may as well just go to the pub. I'm sure that may happen afterwords anyway.

So I can't bring my hardcore porn zine along?

hmm, thought there might be a bit more interest than this.
Surely if even me and Hasko can put aside the Warren Street/Hideaway House conflict for long enough to drink some tea and hassle people to buy our records maybe other people can as well...

okay, so any folks doing labels/zines/distros etc who think this is a good idea and would like to be involved, drop us an ould line there:
[email protected]

thinking would it be cool to organise a gig to round off the evening maybe? some kind of "how to" talks about running a label or putting on gigs or whatever?

yeah, it's a kind of jokey rivalry between Dylan who runs the Frigits' house and the street we live on, which is also home to folks from Tunguska,Crowd Control, Divisions Ruin, and Apes of Wrath and is right around the corner from the Lower Deck.
drop us an email graeme
