has anyone got the online philip glass engine thingy to work recently or is it out of commission ?

I went to that philip glass/kronos quartet/dracula performance in the concert hall 4 or 5 years ago. That was cool.

stars of the lid are great to go to sleep to...

you need some form of recording software on ur computi. and more than likely it will be phono to mini jack. stereo line in i think.

check out heinrich gorecki.

i depends, if your planning to grab the first minimalist CD that some interwep throws at you and sample it along with the same three quotes from obscure ebay dvd's that we ALL have at this stage and then load up some limp dick mp3 and try and convince people you've been inventive then no.

otherwise do what they said.

Listen to Steve Reich.
Music for Eighteen Musicians is spooky - v.good. I also have one random track he did with Pat Metheny thats absolutely brilliant. A bit like a gay version of the redneck manifesto - really jaunty but still mathematical.

must look into some of the above stuff meself. here's my recommendations:

any labradford, any pan american, any eluvium
the dead texan - the dead texan
marsen jules - herbstlaub
max richter - the blue notebooks
fennesz - venice

oh yes, i forgot labradford. their "me media naranja" album would be the best place to start. also, they did a collaboration with stars of the lid called "the khanuk incident" which is very nice. in a similar vein, i would recommend the track "pendulum man" by bark psychosis.

reich is good for the classical side of it, but i really would recommend one check out la monte young, c palestine, john duncan, phill niblock, xenakis, alvin lucier and robert ashley also.

happy listening!
