    Idea for saving ROAD Records

Captain A, are you around Donegal like meself? I'm in Inishowen. Windy and wet. BTW it looks even though the tributes to Road were many, there is little appetite to save it and purely because the model isn't viable. We all recognise that. The other shops don't seem to have radically different...

    Idea for saving ROAD Records

Absolutely support the remaining ones, it's just that ROAD were my favourite. How are the remaining ones surviving if ROAD couldn't. Anyone?

    Idea for saving ROAD Records

Amazing. The last good few posts I have to say are nothing if not a predictable reaction to anyone actually getting up and doing anything positive. If it were easy we'd all be doing it... Myself and NiallMc encountered all the same negative views when we were setting up a co-op many moons ago...

Where would you sell it it? Doh.

    Idea for saving ROAD Records

Anthony, that particular collective was not a co-op with memo and arts etc. It was a group of mainly anarchist minded folk. It didn't do too bad and in fact I saw a gig or two there meself. Free wine! The food co-op already exists as an outlet in Pearse Street and it does what it says on the...

    Idea for saving ROAD Records

The way to form a co-op if people were interested is to form a membership base who identify with, form, and agree to a memorandum for the co-op's activities and future activities. Decisions are made by majority agreement etc. But the in's and out's of running a store on a voluntary basis...

    Idea for saving ROAD Records

I imagine Dave/Julie have probably had enough alright, especially with a new baby to manage. As Old mentions, a co-operative would possibly be the best bet. I have been banging on for years about a co-operative space which starts off with a certain memorandum, evolves naturally thru time, and...

    Idea for saving ROAD Records

OK here it is. About 400 or more (incredible number) of thumped folk are aware of the impending closure of Road. All are losing a place to buy and find new bands, Irish bands are losing a dedicated outlet to sell their stuff, and there's just a general malaise around the idea that such a perfect...

Road Records - A message from the staff

I think the idea of a party for Dave and Julie is great. If anyone happens to be in Derry, go to Cool Discs and have a browse. Independent record store. Beside the bus depot. If Road is gone and I sincerely hope it miraculously survives (from this thread alone)...then let's protect the remaining...

Road Records - A message from the staff

Dave & Julie. Sorry to hear about the shop closing. It was a focal point for those of us in bands and punters who fancied a nosy at what was happening in Dublin. Here's the bad part. Dublin has been fucked up since the Corporation stopped flypostering, since gigs became ridiculously hard for...

    Albums of the Year 2008

Don't get too many new albums really but Bon Iver's is fantastic, The Walkmen one ain't bad, Fleet Foxes v.nice, Jape's was a little disappointing to be brutally honest (though I love Jape), Why? are growing on me, and Little Dragon has an amazing singer. Sorry kids but these times just don't...

Looking for the book on Punks in Dublin

Which was in the making this year but I can't find it. Anyone help? It's basically a photojournal of Punk, Mod, Rocker, etc scenes in Dublin culture since the 50's. I remember the guy saying he had literally 1000's of photos to get thru. It's a present for a friend you see! Any info...

    Derrick Dalton

Just arrived back to Dublin and internet access. Reading all the tributes here is so moving. I've known Derrick Dalton for almost 20 years and I am so sorry for Laura and his family. He was a real gent and a I will miss him. RIP.

Ballroom #77: Isabel at Sunset, MDR, P247, Night on Earth, June 27th

Really enjoyed this gig. My night really went with a bang when after 3 songs my pint glass of bulmers vibrated off the bass bin and threw itself into my monitor after 30 seconds of which it expunged the worst sounds of hades I've ever heard! I thought the whole PA had suddenly been taken over...
