How calling americans american

american is not really a nationality though is it? or at least it shouldn't as it's a collection of several dozen nationalities. but there appeas to be no word in english to specify the nationality of u.s. citizens from other american nationalities. which is weird. funnily enough there is in spanish; the language of the majority of americans!

I think the key to it is when you do a little archival background research, and find out that in fact the "A" part of USA actually stands for "America".

simple enough really. if you get rent allowance from the health board
or a special needs payment for furniture or cookers fridges,back to school clothes allowance as lots of people on the dole or low incomes do. you get a cheque.
more often than not it is a payment for money already spent.(you buy the cooker bring the recite get the cheque) like rent allowance is mostly paid a month in arrears.
so people end up with cheque from the healthboard with large amounts of money.a lot of people on low incomes/dole are less lightly to have bank accounts to lodge the cheques.if your an immigrant its even hard to open an account.

so people use the cheques to pay for things normally like say a car.
so johnny black lad has one of these that he uses to pay for a car.the dealer tells people that he payed for the car with a cheque from the hse.
"free car"

or simply alot of people think every non white person in ireland is a refugee so the see john the (black) doctor in his car doing his rounds and think how did that refugee affoard a car? oh yeah i heard something down the pub about them getting free cars so the cycle continues.
and we know its true because in ireland everyone has a best friends cousin who sold one of them a car.
