II don't see any real path here for us to find out she's secretely an agent of the assad/putin regime.

Syria has six poltical encampments drawn on religious lines and who's allied to who gets extremely complex fast when looking at it from our political lens - at this time there's a tide of finally being able to talk shit about Assad that wasn't so easy before -
TLDR Syria is 3x complicated as Northern Ireland was - so statements i'd want to source to who's saying them quite specifically

I remember when all that stuff was going on about Assad dumping chemical barrel bombs on some city and Robert Fisk went and reported that he inspected a bomb site and it was fake news and suddenly he was a Putin/Assad apologist, cancelled and all his previous work now discredited instead of just being maybe being reporter who might be wrong on occasion, it was a mess. let’s just say that they were there to give the guardian a story to tell you, oh western media consumer. they weren’t so much the goodies or the baddies so much as they were the media decoys. they were concocted in one building in london, and then reported on from another room in london. and meanwhile, in a third room in london, the slow strangulation of syria was efficiently managed over the course of a decade. yes, the story also involves other rooms in other cities in the west (and moscow), but that’s the short version.

Hugely complex.
The west thought they’d get regime change on the cheap, and neither properly supported the opposition they talked up, or actually engage with the Assad regime when things turned out to be less than simple.

The Kurds were completely abandoned by the us.

Just as well it’s all turned out grand in the end…

Entire Arab Spring arguably begins in Tunisia with one act by Mohamed Bouazizi.
It subsequently extends to Egypt and Libya with el-Sisi and Gaddafi removed eventually Assad in Syria.
That Assad initially put down public protest in such a violent way is what started an all out civil conflict.
Syria is a conflict that then became very multifaceted from immediate region to near entire world.
Sharing a border with Iraq I think cant help of course which is like a disease that spread.
North Africa still being destabilised plays a part in the current conflict in Sudan as route for weapons.
US sanctions Russia for issues around Syria so here also is the start of a little proxy war.
