Actually... could you link up some earlier Doom stuff? Or give me a pointer?

I'm not a massive Beatles fan, but every now and again I'll notice something they did and realise (again) they some good songs. My 8 year old is into them, so now I'm listening more.

And I'm obviously not all that well versed in Doom either. That track, that sort of howling wind type noise, that sounded like Burzum, and the chord progressions sounded like metal. I was always told that Black Sabbath would have been the first lads making metal though. I can't listen to that Beatles track and not hear fully formed Metal.

I'm trying to think. Cromagnon were around in the late 60s too. But they weren't as Doomy sounding, I think?

Early lo fi blues, yeah. I can see that now that you mention it. I didn't associate that before.

edit - @moose mentioned Blue Cheer. I'm listening now.

The Groundhogs, Randy Holden (Population II), Sir Lord Baltimore, Pentagram off the top of my head. They're usually referred to as proto metal or proto doom.

edit: listening to Spandau Ballet, now there's a band.

Edit: I had my fun, time to erase the evidence.

This was a pretty long post about how right I've been about everything on thumped for all these years.

It was pretty gushing, tbh I didn't respond to it because It sorta crossed a lot of very personal boundaries, and posting a picture of yourself holding a sign isn't really normal thumped practice.

Can understand and empathise with it being removed.

Namaste.

If your staying at up to 69,you should try a lot of 60s blues rock ,not as blatant, but then slot of sabbath is pretty bluesy. Try early Free ,Grand Funk, and other big names even Zeppelin and Deep Purple, iron butterfly,Cream.a lot of bands playing doom or early heavy metal would have been influenced by the Beatles but probably were already finding themselves by the time that song was released.

Theres a lot of more obscure lesser known stuff, more than you would believe, but often the obscure stuff is what people champion but the well known stuff is as good or better just more ingrained,a bit like the beatles.

Damnation of Adam Blessing,Leslie West,Vanilla Fudge,Gun,Josefus Deviants Blues Creation all had releases in 69 or before

Probably loads of prog too,but I'm not so into more proggy stuff

It's not about inventing anything, its just about being incredibly good at songs. And recording them.

Love the stones, but really, they only have two albums. Sticky Fingers and exile.

I love that your defense of the Beatles has to include a dig at the Stones. Both extremely over rated to be fair.

Someone else already brought up the comparison. Ive never really had them in the same category to be honest. Beatles = all encompassing music template. Stones = Stones.

No dig at the Stones either. To make one record as good as Sticky Fingers is getting into once in a lifetime territory.

I never delved too far into their Wikipedia, but my guess was always that Mick Taylor kept them right. When he was gone the shiny shirts and stupid dancing came out.
