i read recently that in Reykjavik, everyone decided they'd like to look at the stars, so they turned off all the street lights and got everybody to dim their house lights and they all looked up .
How nice is that?
they've also got the sweetest accents, if wasn't for the whaling i'd elect them supreme overlords

You will be. They didnt want to pay the landing fees for the airport, so they do a low pass a mile off the coast, and the floor of the plane opens up.

They are sound though. They will flog you a life jacket for 68 Euro on the way over.

The journey back is tricky. The Ryanair site recommends you stowe away on the transatlantic stopover flights, for safety reasons. (You will still owe them the tax on the fare though.) The Ryanair site also asks, if you are stowed away, would you mind siphoning off some fuel, and dropping it off at the specially designated "Ryanair spare fuel collection points", that would be sound, thanks.

Want to go in March but can't find any deals from Ireland.

So i booked Iceland with a friend
We were just about to pay €300 return from Stanstead after much deliberating and €60 over to Stanstead from here (so €360 altogether) cos my experience were BA are a rip off too.

On my way down to book them i got talking to a guy whos Irish mate lives there and he said try BA through Gatwick.

Total score; €130 return from June 10th - June 16th.

Every other day was like £100+ sterling but by some freak coincidence the days we wanted to go were only £44 EACH way.

So chuffed, including flight to Gatwick from here its now only costing me €200 return all in. Few hours wait in Gatwick.

Crikey! I'll have to look into this again, was looking to go end of jan/start of feb but couldn't find anything for less than €300!

Headin her on Saturday week. Flying into Keflavik, prob go straight to the Blue Lagoon from the airport as its en route to Reykjavik.

Any other tips? I mean i've read loads but always appreciate the personable insights.

pingvelir, gulfloss, geysir all on the itinerary. Possibly the westman islands too. Can not wait!

Check out the Mývatn Nature Baths (near lake Mývatn) if you can - they're basically a less slick, less commercial version of the Blue Lagoon with a deadly view.

just back yesterday. Wow what a country, amazing views, amazingly friendly people and well as for the 24hour brightness thing, this was only made more confusing by the fact we arrivd in Iceland on their hottest day of the year (23*) and it stayed like this for our entire week!

what an amazing place!

would actually consider moving there..haven't quite
figured out what people actually work at

didn't find it ridiculously expensive either...i mean
we live in dublin. it's a bit more than here, but not
that much.

people were deadly - sirkus was way better than i
thought it'd be. liberal application of the smoking
ban. vegemot is a great restaurant. lobster burritos!
boston was cool too. liked that record shop 12 Tonar,
found a bunch of that petrol emotion record and it was
good to see that this record is in every second hand bin in
the entire world:

found the people there to be really nice. most
obvious example of this was the audio equipment rental
guys...i always assumed they were totally useless pricks
all over the world. even the madsers who seem full of it
were cool. ah sure who isn't? icelandic guys speaking in
heavy scottish accents = funniest.

stayed over in this tiny town Vik on the way to some
glacier. lovely little place. black volcanic sand beaches.
glacier trip was pretty incredible. usually not swayed by
that kind of fruity shit. being at some lord of the rings
looking waterfall and a 30 people riding over on horse back
was pretty surreal.

we were there for Culture Day or something...it was intense.
kind of like patricks day here but all the drunk 15 year olds
were wearing titled caps, skinny jeans and fancy nikes.
not a celtic jersey in sight. they're doin somethin right up
there.

get on their goodside by slaggin the swedes - 10/10!

Most beautiful country ever, I would get well bored tho livin there. people drove round the smaller towns in a loop just for entertainment. ja cikus is cool, better than those stuck up cunts in damon albarn's Kaffebarrin

it's worth driving around a bit. we rented a
car for a couple of days. 2 days listening
to dj screw mixtapes, slayer and going
"wow!" every couple of minutes.

would love to be there for when it's really
dark or really bright...had just a bit more
daylight than we have now

we did not raudi, we went to the south east!

i kept trying to place what an icelandic bogger
must be like...cos it wasn't that noticeable
compared to say ireland. i figure the lad driving
around in the monster truck, with the tennis ball
hair and the t-shirt that said "beer" was an icelandic
bogger though. he actually had a monster truck.
