giving the new album a spin for the first time and I'm surprised how clear the production is, how melodic, and how generally palatable it is (compared to some of their other stuff).

Also, while looking for a thread to reply to I remembered how angry some of us got cos they cancelled a gig that time they missed the boat, but then got here late and played a gig without telling anyone, other than people who were already in the venue (Crawdaddy?).

I've a copy of Sung Tongs on my to be played pile, I always thought it was their best album but it's been sitting there a while.

Thinking about these guys just makes me cringe at how susceptible I was to media hype and fashion in my mid-20s. Jaysus.

I might stick one of their albums on yt later...

Off the top of my head, I'm reckoning Peacebone is their standout tune. Thinking also about your man's lyrics now too, Jesus H... it's all very 2009 underground music zeitgeist... makes me think of the J1 I did. Not bad memories in fairness.

13 years late to this post but it deserves an answer: Animal Collective are overhyped garbage. They were crap back then and they haven’t improved over time.
