Ultraísta play The Button Factory on December 8th and joining them on the night are Cloud Castle Lake and Maribou State (UK). ULTRAISTA, the trio comprised of multi-instrumentalist Nigel Godrich (Radiohead producer), legendary drummer Joey Waronker (Smashing Pumpkins/Beck/Johnny Cash/Eels) and vocalist/artist Laura Bettinson founded in London in 2011 on a mutual love of Afrobeat, electronic, dance music, visual art and tequila. Ultraista has created 10 tracks of exquisitely crafted electronic kraut-pop for their phenomenal first outing.
Cloud Castle Lake carve out a large, unwieldy sound and seek out the relatively uncharted territory between a wide range of genres, arriving at an atmospheric and intense sound that grips and enthrals over long, intricate songs. Switching from operatic post-rock to raucous krautrock to tender lullabies with an assurance and an accomplished grace beyond their years. Cloud Castle Lake will send you to dizzying heights.
Stuck out in the sticks and yet still managing to rattle city speakers with their vibrant new sounds, there’s no denying that Maribou State are making waves in the UK electronic music scene. The haunting vocals ooze through their tracks, smoothly fused with oriental chimes and tropical rhythms. Their remixes of Jagga, 2 Bears, Wretch 32 and Crookers (No1 in The Hype Machine) have earned them an array of followers. A new album is on the horizon for the end of 2012.
