CRANES
As one of the major players in the UK’s original shoegaze scene, along with groups such as Slowdive, Lush, and Ride, Cranes were one of the first rock bands to put the seaside town of Portsmouth on the musical map. Cranes first album ‘Self non Self’ had a peculiar intensity which seemed all the more unusual at the time. John Peel picked up on the album right away, with the group recording a session for him in the album’s first week of release. Some intense media interest followed and shortly afterwards the group signed to Dedicated-BMG and went on to record the 5 albums including ‘Loved’ and ‘Population 4’. After a 4 year break, Cranes re-emerged on their own independent label Dadaphonic to release ‘Future Songs’ (2001), ‘Particles & Waves’ (2004) and ‘Cranes’ (2008)

With two hugely successful sold out shows in London over the past few months, Cranes are heading on the road for a UK and Ireland tour. Taking in a date at the famous Jazz Cafe in London Camden, they will also be playing their first Irish date since their world tour support slot with The Cure in 1992. They finally find themselves on Irish shores with a special one off show in Dublin’s WHELANS on Saturday April 17th. This is likely to be their only Irish date for the foreseeable future and one not to be missed.
