who do you think is the best irish band? (1 Viewer)

Oh and as for Irish band's

How come no one mentioned:

Engine Alley
The Hitchers

Although my ye olde faves are probably MBV and of the current lot I quite like Daemien Frost, The Jimmy Cake and Pez.

Oh and obviously

My Tame Monkey
The Clap

and which of the stories in raise high the roof beam did you get your nick from?

Was discussing it with a mate last night and did a quick google on the banannafish archives to no avail

and my copy of raise high the roof beam is in storage in my folks :(
well done ook , you literati.
you are the first person to comment upon where I got my username from.

I borrowed (ahem) the name from the excellent short story by salinger called
"a perfect day for bananafish".
in it seymour nicknames his bird "miss spiritual tramp of 1948".

But isn't that story about a dirty old man, who brings his neice or granddaughter swimming so she can help him look for the 'bananafish'?

(Think about it: a banana shaped fish would look a bit like a dicky rock wouldn't it?)

PS: hope I haven't put you off your name which is otherwise fine

its not about a dirty old man!

but if you want a proper story about a dirty old man read lolita.

don't worry you have not put me off my name and even if you did I'm far too lazy to change it :)

Creative Control

What other Irish white guys can rap without looking n sounding like geriatric pig farmers from Dingle with speech impediments?
I ask you!?

The Tycho Brahe are up there, though I prefered them as The Plague Monkeys.

My all time favorite Irish band is The Prayer Boat. Their album POLICHINELLE is devastating. Lead vocalist Emmett Tinley has an incredible instrument. Saw it in Tower for 23Euro, but you can get it easily enough on eBay for $4 or less. Do yourself a favor, get it and be prepared to cry.

At the risk of distracting you from your thoughts of buying the The Prayer Boat cd...Re: IOU. Here's a scan of their only release. You may recognize Mark, Kian and Shane. This was pre Bryan and Nicky. (What were they thinking with those hair don'ts?) Enjoy, Thomas

Ho ho. Only €23 a peep, eh? Has Emmett fallen on hard times or something?

Girlfriend, No you din't, no you din't! Don't you talk about my Emmett like that. I'm sure I'd give him MUCH more than E23 for a peep! He's classy, just like my Daddy.

Hey, here's the back of the promo with some nice words on it...

SHUT UP! (said with jealous awe, not vile disrespect)

I bet she heard him singing all the time...how ever did she get to work in the mornings.

I'm serious, the man has one of the TWO best male voices in the WORLD. The other being Liam Davis of Frisbie and also of The Moviegoers. They both sing like women, I guess that's why I like them so much!

Wow, to live upstairs from Emmett Tinley...Christ. What I wouldn't give...

emmett

Emmett Tinley fathered my lovechild.
He took me every which way in the back of my chopper (see avatar - incidentally, does anyone remember me from 240 Robert?).

Future Kings Of Spain = fucking diddly band.
