I hope so. I think he's best known for failing to sign U2 sometime in the late 70s. I remember there was some kind of song competition on sponsored by Hot Press a couple of years back and he wrote this hilarious set of guidelines- things like avoiding songs longer than 3 minutes, getting the chorus in as many times as possible, that kind of thing.

what a load of ass

think about what you're saying boy

hey its noit a load of ass micheal.
if your a good band people will hear about from there friends and theyll go to your gigs aswell also.
but if your crap then people won't go to them.

you see?

of course i tink about wjat i'm saying.

you siad the words

"the better you are the more people will know you"

does that mean that westlife are better than sigur ros?

just out of interest/curiosity like ya know?

Best Irish Album of my short term memory is The Last Post's 'Dry Land'. You dont get ambition like that around these parts too often.

And the bass noise in Decals remix of 'Waiting' from the same is the best electronic sound to come out of this country ever. .|..|

Most stuff thats around now will probably disappear into insignificance within 5 years. you can hear much better versions of most irish bands if you travel back in time a couple of years to other countries.

in saying that, its all a bit of a laugh.

i liked URC at Wonky, even though they sound exactly like Ship of Fools, which no-one ever heard of, so URC win. FIGHT!

And of course the Satan Clause were one of the best irish bands ever. but i would say that i suppose. i was never into the null set (sorry happy!), I thought it was maths for maths sake, too self coscious, but i think Daemien Frost got it right though.

Ands the Waltons had a thing going on. Genuinely scary shit.

I cant believe no-one heard of that Nirvana/Tullamore connection. Eejits.

wow, I really want to hear ship of fools now.
Is there any way/where I can ?

Also, URC sucked ass at the weekend. Never doing a gig without Stephen [iquinn] again.

i have a compilation album with some ship of fools stuff on it. they were actually, quite wicked for the time.

more sample-o-delic than urc though. then it was 1990.

"Often described at the time as a dancier cousin to the Ozric Tentacles".
"Always happier on the live circuit the band played every free party, festival & rave in the country with bands such as Senser & Mandragora"

yes, that sounds exactly like them.

they were, however, unlike senser, good.

From what I remember they were pretty prog, with a lot of constant solos etc (like Dave D's stuff on URC), but with samples in the background. None of that sexy drumming stuff that URC have. Maybe it was a bad comparison. You can bet your ass it was a lazy one at any rate

ps anyone in dublin this sunday come to project theatre for display of Keith o Brien, Dano (ex-bambi), Fergus kelly (RSI), Paul Smyth and Simon O' Connor (Jimmy Cake) jacking off art style to abstract porn pictures held up by visiting Norwegian composer/guitarist Oyvind Torvund. First fifty in get a free copy of the current Playboy Book of Lingerie to celebrate the occurence of this shameless filth
