I'm thinking of getting back into this and try make some cider and rice wine (and an excuse to photoshop up some cool labels).

I used to get the stuff in Easons but they don't do it anymore..Wher else sells the equipment in Dublin?

There also a place on Patrick st in dun laoghaire that has some stuff if you're out that way

What way are you going to make cider and how do you make rice wine?

My GFs mom has a huge crop of apples coming up - so i guess I was going to use them.

A mate used to make really nice rice and raisin wine - i'll hit him up for the recipe.

What have u made HMB?

I made Cider about 3 years ago.
You need about 10lb of apples per gallon of juice. Then I used a home juicer rather than pulping them. Put in a bit of champagne yeast and left it go for a few weeks. I added some sugar as it was very bitter after the first fermentation.

Nicest cider ever.

Might do it again this year.

Excellent - as I said I have a load of apples. How much did u do? I'm not sure yet depending on if i get a 5gallon container or a few 1gallon demijohns...

Did u use a keg/barrel or did u bottle it in beer bottles?

I did 5 gallons and used a keg. It was kinda fizzy for the first half and then flat.

If you have spare apples, let me know.

What kind of apples did u use?

I was just reading up a little and it seems cooking apples aren't the best?

Used a mix of cookers and eaters, whatever i could get. Apparently that gives a better cider.

the best place and cheepest place for home brew supplys is (homebrew.ie) its down the country but delivery is very reasonable
