I watched the first season (french version) in a single sitting. Haven't watched season 2 yet. I'm not fully convinced by the whole thing but it's gripping as hell.

I went off this by the second episode. I find the episodes too long.
I think Louis CK is a great writer but his acting style is a bit rubbish. He just bugs his eyes and puffs his cheeks out. That’s all he does. Does it get better?

Aye. Herself has it on. I like the idea behind the show, but it's so tame, and middle of the road safe tv fare. Completely undoes any hope of it being a anyway decent show.

I'm enjoying this. Nice creepy atmosphere and I don't really know where it's going which is good. Great score by Mogwai too

Happy Valley. Plotwise it's like they transplanted Fargo to the North of England and made it less funny and more rapey. It's good for a British crime drama, which tend to be a bit shit in general.

Today's TV shows are good – but they aren't The Sopranos

There was, for a while, a lot of television shows born of stories their creator was dying to tell.

But now a lot of shows at this end of the spectrum are built for a single purpose: to spend a maximum amount of a network’s money. That was certainly true of the disastrous Vinyl and the forgettable Boardwalk Empire, which wasted expensive sets on talented actors and then set them adrift with writers that had nothing to say. The studio model of making movies, in other words – stuff it with big names, make it shiny – had leaked into this sphere, and it’s ruined everything.

I kind of feel her argument falls apart at the end when she pretty much admits that she just wants canonical works about important white men thinking important white men things.
