Walter Hill night.

Streets of Fire. A rock & roll fable, apparently. Also a reasonably literal title, there are plenty of streets and plenty of things of fire on them, including exploding motorcycles. Michael Pare rescuing Diane Lane from rubber pants-wearing, gang leading Willem Dafoe. Rick Moranis trying to be hard.

Southern Comfort. Powers Boothe, Keith Carradine, Fred Ward etc are US FCA types being hunted through the swamp by disgruntled Cajuns.

Mickey Rourke with facial prosthetics to make him look like modern day Mickey Rourke is double crossed in a robbery by Lance Henriksen and Ellen Barkin. Forest Whitaker gives him the face of 1980s Mickey Rourke. He may possibly want revenge (for clarity - on Lance Henriksen and Ellen Barkin, not on Forest Whitaker for giving him a new face).

I think tonight may be Walter Hill night part 2.

More Walter Hill

Senna

Remember when F1 was exciting ? Murray Walker yelping, cars making the sound that god makes when he sprints and men throwing themselves at break neck speeds towards barriers with their tyres leaving the road as they bounce over the track edges. Yes back before / just as the technology and the owners took over the sport F1 was downright exciting stuff. It even had charachters in it. No robots with lap dancing girlfriends just down right mad, over confident mentallers with lap dancer girlfriends . Yes if you were born in the early eighties every sunday one sound high pitched rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! FUCKING YYYEEEESSSSSSS.

Brilliant documentary about one of the greatest and unique talents in sport. The film looks for the most part solely at Senna the driver, Senna the sportsman and through the incredible wealth of footage of him during his career we as an audience begin to know him as a man, there are family and friends talking about him of course, but as the film progresses there is no space which needs to be filled by eulogising, hearsay and conjecture. The Senna we see is a man surrounded by cameras at his work and through this the documentary presents its subjects. Occaisionally dipping in to private footage the Film is presented very much as a thriller, a sports movie in which we know there will be dizzying highs, devistating lows and eventually tragedy. His rivalry with Alain Prost becomes the crux of most of the movie and the two's honesty in front of the cameras which follow every second of their careers makes for some the films best moments. What elevates this film above the average sports documentary is the fact that the director has decided to focus on making the film feel like the sport (or at least what the sport was like at the time) this is thrilling exciting break neck speed stuff, the in car footage on the big screen is down right amazing, one sequece in which we see one lap of Monico is absolutely thrilling and the finale in Imola is as tense as any work of fiction even though you know the outcome, this is how the film works it's never morbid it's not trying to canonise Senna, Prost is the villian, but not really, he's a dedicated charismatic arrogant (which is a given) sportsman Senna is the same but his belief and dedication is matched only by his dedication to god and his outlook on his career is as close to loonacy as it is to genius. We see Prost and Senna flirt on camera with beautiful women and you get the idea that they lived the playboy life styles Sennas sister talks about how Ayrton cared for the brazilian people and there is footage of poverty of his native land, but overall the film is only interested in presenting the men and the job they've made their lives. Somewhat Reminicant of Zidane, a film in which we look at a man put in one shift and know him better by this. Brilliant and thrilling Senna is the best most exciting film you'll see among the CGI drivel of summer.

Kill Micheal Bay.

I'll watch any old crap for Rose Byrne

Quite funny in places but an absolutely terrible film. They actually seem to forget that it was supposed to be an ensemble piece about halfway through.

Worth watching only for Jon Hamm playing a character who is basically Zapp Brannigan.

Kinda want to see this, even if the film sounds like the exact opposite of what I like in films.

Anywho saw:

80's action movie that was made in 2010. Lots of macho bullshit set in New Orleans with a cop who just doesn't play by the rules. Keep an eye out for Bas Rutten, Tom Berenger and someone wearing a Sean Patrick Flanery mask. Tigs from Sons of ANarchy also makes an appearance but blink and you'll miss him..Everyone in the film gets shot or tortured or both..I enjoyed it..

Viva Riva - Congalese gangster film set in Kinshasa. Fairly amusing - heavy stuff with loads of riding all over the place, probably more riding that violence in this film. Well, maybe not. Odd film overall - good in bits, ropey as fuck in others - decent if you like gangster-type films I'd say

overlong and a bit messy but very entertaining. daniel day lewis owns every scene he's in

^ agreed on Bridesmaids on all counts. I thought Chris O'Dowd was so lovely in it. His accent has changed a bit.
