Anyone here ever set up a site for their band? I'm just wondering if there is a well know and cheap service provider people usually run with?

I've had fierce trouble with these guys. I bought a domain name off them. And I started having problems (still have infact) and when I email them they generally ignore me for weeks. as explanation for this delay they told me that they offer domains at cost so they don't make any profit and therefore aren't really interested in maintaining them.

All I'm looking to do right now is to secure the domain name but do most places want a host address or something before you can purchase the domain name?

These guys are the business: domain name + 100Mb hosting at $20 per year. You can even get some domains for free. Used them for 2 years, never had a problem. Tech support is excellent too.

I use www.ez-web-hosting.com, their cheapest is $6 a month for 100MB (I pay €19 a month for 1GB hosting)

I use urevised (the bronze cheapo package). It's £2.50 a month with 1gb of space & 5gb of transfer. not bad.

Check out www.hasweb.com. Their cheapest option works out at €25 per year and you get loads of toys.

I use them and haven't had any problems.

I've got four sites on it and it's got a pretty nifty web-mail facility. No problems for me with these guys.
It's working out around $15 a month for this.

are you still using this crowd? ive been using them but lately i've been finding that the site wont open sometimes (like this morning) and neither will the contol panel. annoying. im pretty sure traffic hasnt gone over any limits etc

edit: its back now. typical. there was all these mysql error messages yesterday so i sent a message to the tech support chatroom and as soon as the guy went to check it out it started working fine again...
