web designers, you're time is up (1 Viewer)

the flash is nice but not revolutionary.

the html, though...

http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://www.viaduct.co.uk/viaduct.html

...ha fucking ha.

the code doesn't even have an opening <html> tag (fucksake! that's day-one-of-web-design kind of stuff) let alone anything as fancy as, say, a doctype declaration.

i'd love to see someone try to use this site in any sort of non-standard way. with a screenreader, say.

mmm, i don't really mind about the coding, you crazy cat tom. tom cat. tom. but i will laud them for making it look nice, and they certainly used some motion techniques quite nicely.

it is, however, an extremely irritating site to use - and in that sense it fails to fulfil one of its most basic functions: it annoys visitors and drives them away. as they say in texas "all hat and no trousers".

cuh, the number of times i've been sent home from school for that.

here is an old flash site that I think is superior code wise etc. try the 'sort by' then double click for a project. throw a card around. etc

won't make tom happy re. screen readers etc buh.

Tom 'standards evangelist'.

Anyway you're right. I feel the same. (except for the ladyfest site so we won't mention that). I wish microsoft would get their heads out of their asses and learn to support CSS properly.

And that site isn't any great shit. The Habitat one is far nicer, in that sorta stylee. The furniture is nice buh..

i hate a lot of flash sites because they don't justify the use of flash. whereas some do.

having a website devoted to furniture products made with flash is just plain stupeh. You can't bookmark a product you're interested in, for starters.

i believe de-construct only do flash work. more the stupid marketing person who hears a name and hires them. although it may suit the target customer.

heh.

zing! you've been zeldman-ed!

what annoyed me wasn't the code so much as the fact that anyone could redo it in 5 minutes and have it valid...

that's nice flash. though all flash tends towards flashturbation. (doesn't it? discuss thing.) good flash tends to be integrated into a html page, rather than being the basis of the entire site.

nice flash: http://www.faithink.com/

i agree. methinks there's a big gulf between design and function and there are too many web 'designers' out there. sorta like interior designers. most webpages are meant to be funcitonal, not works of art. a good balance is best.

The good flash sites are those that push the boundaries of coding etc. I'm not so into flash integrated into html or css based layouts - but if they want their page to 'zing' well give them 'zing'. The need for plugin-checks etc can slow the site down and increase the designers workload re. updates etc.

Sometimes i think if you are going to use flash then use it 100%.

lots of good flash photography site about.
