FROM
METALIRELAND.COM....
Comprised of former members of Some Days Better and The Killing Spree, the relatively new We Are Knives bring a collective experience to the floor that is immediately impressive. The Killing Spree were not a very pleasant musical proposition at the best of times, but mercifully the crap has been completely trimmed to the point were this new collection of talents is entirely rivetting. Call it whatever niche genre you want, but whichever you choose, its compelling. The lynchpin is of course the almost absurdly talented guitarist, whose entire sonic contribution comes in the form of wave upon wave of rhythmical tapping, which when locked with the sympathetic drums and bass creates a strange but totally immersive effect. This is nothing new: King Crimson may be readily namechecked, and this man's ear owes much to Fripp's. In the context of aggressive and pounding post hardcore however, it wouldnt be out of place to call it exhillerating, and We Are Knives blew everyone else off the floor tonight. Tight, well rehearsed, experienced and colourful, you just have to see them at the next available opportunity. Damn impressive.

Kate Ellis - cello

David Lacey - drums/percussion.
Seán Óg - soprano/alto saxophones.
Cormac O'Brien - double bass.

Amygdala:
Dave Carroll: Drums
Ferg Cullen: Guitar, Keys
Gavin Prior: Bass, electronics
Paul Roe: Bass Clarinet, Eb clarinet

The sixth release from Deserted Village is an unedited recording of the first meeting of a truly odd and exciting line-up: Dave Carroll (The Wormholes) on percussion, Fergus Cullen (Papercop) on guitar, Gavin Prior (Murmansk) on percussion and electronics and Paul Roe (Concorde Ensemble) on Bass clarinet. This unplanned hour of improv arose from two overlapping sessions in the Deserted Studio and was an enjoyable departure for everyone involved. It is an extremely fluid set with frenetic grooves twisting and turning before dissolving back into sonic sludge.
Paul Roe draws on his contemporary music background, exploiting a wealth of extended technique. His humming and clicking blends in and out of whatever noise or groove comes his way. He is met half-way by the non-academic musicians in a stew, stranger than the sum of its parts. Of Course Amygdala is best appreciated live. Irish dates have included the legendary Lazybird and Boom Boom Room venues as well as supporting Keith Rowe and John Tilbury at the Fuse Leeds Festival in 2003.

After just one CD-R release, Amygdala are already generating a media frenzy........
