well I suppose singles are singles for a reason sometimes.

I feel justifiably proud at sticking Six by Seven at the summit. Great band. .

jaykers. i thought i was the only person in the universe who liked them.

dear thumped,

do yourselves a favour: get a copy of 'the things we make' (beggars banquet 1998), which is the debut album by six by seven and one of the best debut albums of the past decade. six by seven can be a bit indie-geetar-by-numbers in places, but that album has some of the most fantastic indie-drone-punk stuff ever on it. or else just go on soulseek or whatever it is you kids use to get music these days, and get european me, ten places to die, and a beautiful shape.

tom.

fair play Tom. The Closer You Get is a great album aswell. They released two this year: O4 was their fourth album proper but they also put out a mail order only/leftovers thingy called Left Luggage at the Peveril Hotel which is actually even better.

Snow Patrol?

Aww come on, snow patrol shouldn't feature in the top 50 songs of 2004. top 50 singles? yes but not top 50 songs. i remember when it was released first as a single from the final straw album, it was brilliant, it still is. final straw album 17 months on is still brilliant

that's somethin g that pisses me off when people include snow patrol in their top alubms of 2004. i don't know why

Na seriously, Snow Patrol are just balleeks.

i've seen em about 15 times. one of my favourite bands. their new stuff is bland, but the old stuff is still fantastic, songs for polarbears is one of my favourite albums ever.

a point well taken, but it was released as a single in 2004 so I stuck it in. personally, I know very little about the band. saw them supporting Belle and Sebastian a long time ago but that's about it. The other singles off Final Straw didn't set my world alight but Spitting Games is the tune Bob Mould left off Copper Blue (ie - very good)
