This is where we talk about our favourite R.E.M. albums (4 Viewers)

Their difficult next album: "Autism for the people"

The hit from that being "Man on the mmmmeehhhhh"

Hey Ian why dont you recount another 3 hour tale about the time you went to the cure gig and snogged some goth and got the train home yadda yadda yadda. Or heym how about the time you missed sonic youth because you were asleep...... yawn...

But did ya win a Discman and a set of Encyclopedias for your school?

No. I didn't get to pick the team, so we had a one-armed hurler and a local sargeant's daughter, who I now suspect had a crush on me (Her da later came up to me in a pound shop and had a chat with me about what a nice girl she was.) Despite a 5/6 in my specialist subject, we were knocked out in the first round by an exceedingly good-looking all-girl team.

REM were the 2nd band I got into, after Oasis.
Loved them and learned everything about them. But I let them go when Reveal was crap.
And now I don't even really like the good stuff.
Fool me once, shame on you, won't get fooled again.

Wow, this could have been one of my posts word for word. Although I think I was a bit into Radiohead/smiths/eels in between but still. LOVED REM until Reveal and its aftermath. Last decade hasn't done much for me although one or two of the gigs were amongst the best I've been to. I think Ardgillan was perhaps their best gig of the 5 or 6 I've been to. The "rehearsal" show in the Olympia was a waste of money.

I've never been able to stand them, or see any virtue whatsoever in what they do/who they are/how they operate. But I think I'm clearly missing something because I'm usually in the minority with that. The fact that this thread, while featuring compliment, seems to descend into maliciousness pleases me.
