It will be interesting to have people apologetically explain a popes statements without recourse to saying "something was lost in translation, he's the pope. I think what he meant was...."
But using that excuse for an English speaking pope.

Disorder have a song called Hang The Pope (1989) which is a sort of send up of the Nuclear Assault song.

Vatican Commandos (Moby's HC punk band) The Smoking Popes, The Rudimentary Peni album about Nick Blinko's delusion he was Pope Adrian the 37th, Birthday Party - Drunk on the Pope's Blood live EP....

I searched "pope" on my Discogs collection and 35 records came up - none likely to have been positive.
