I probably wouldn't have discovered SST Records if it wasn't for Soundgarden (and wanting to hear everything they did) and the first SST thing I bought was Everything Went Black, which is fucking amazing enough (I'll still rep for the Dez versions of those Damaged songs over the album proper; no dis to Rollins as a singer, but the album's sloppy as hell. The tighter arrangements in the Dez sessions are so much stronger).

But in August '97 I got the Minutemen's Post-Mersh Vol 1, the one with The Punch Line and What Makes A Man Start Fires? on it, and I think literally from the first 10 seconds of 'Search' I was hooked, and I knew this was the band for me. They (and SST in general) opened my ears to a lot of stuff I can't even quantify.
