Hey! I know there's a thread in the Politics section about this but it would be great to see loads more people here vote in the Poll on that thread.
Seems really important, and I'm sick of our government threatening disaster if we don't vote Yes on it. They're a bunch of pricks

Listening to the various dejected 'yes' campaigners on the radio.

The talk is that now Ireland will be perceived in a very poor light in Europe. Apparently there was an icy attitude towards Chirac when France went against the European agenda, and no-one would do business with them until he went.

If this is the case- What a bunch of petulant fuckers we as Europeans have elected.

So..what they're implying is that we never really had a choice in the first place. 'Yes' was the only result that would ensure we wouldn't get kneecapped for not playing ball.

It's as if our government promised Europe that Ireland would take a dive and Ireland decided not to- now the boys are after us.

Too many metaphors?

Never!

I'm surprised its looking like No is gonna win. Maybe Ireland is waking up a bit, instead of the usual doing as we're told

fair play geebags

Its only the petulant fuckers who will see Ireland in a poor light. And fuck them I say. Millions around Europe will be delighted at this result.

How long though til the govt put the exact same referendum to the people again though? Just like Nice.

Bookie admits blunder after Yes payout

Eoin Burke-Kennedy
Bookmaker Paddypower has admitted it made a mistake, after paying out more than €80,000 in bets on a Yes vote in the Lisbon Treaty referendum.
As polls closed at last night, the bookmaker made a decision to pay out punters who had backed a Yes vote after unofficial exit polls indicated a late surge in support for the treaty.
The blunder means the bookmaker will be forced to pay out over €180,000 in referendum bets.
In a statement, Paddy Power said: "Last night, there were rumours of an exit poll showing the Yes side in the lead and all the late betting suggested a swing in support for the treaty."
"It's an unlucky Friday 13th for Paddy Power but a lucky one for our punters," it added.

yeah - that's really odd - it's almost if they giving us the illusion of democracy rather than the real thing...
but of course, that could never be the case
