When I heard them first I thought it was the Frames. I then heard that song a few more times on the radio and I think I'm starting to like it. But then I'm a sucker for that sort of bar-band Americana ...

They're getting five stars all over the place but they sound like Counting Crows.

I've been listening to the album on mp3 but I honestly just don't get it. Also, the lyrics are shit. He mentions the word 'high' about 100 times. Bo-ring.

Maybe I just need to blast the album out loud in my kitchen to really get it??

love em - TUNES! going to see them in scotland next week - all the best bits of springsteen and lots of reminders of ace songwriters like bob mould and ted leo and not a very small dash of GBV too. The lyrics occasionally make me cringe but the rest of it makes up for it.

The Hold Steady were totally brilliant in Glasgow last night. Most fun band I've seen in ages, they were all smiles and having a deadly old time. Well worth the trip.

Listened to it last night. It's just a bit of fun in my opinion. it's not going to change the world or anything....
very very springsteen.
if i spent money on cds i wouldnt buy this album

Been listening to it all afternoon. I wish I had more thumbs. I love this band. I reckon anyone who doesn't like them is one of those Anti-Americans I keep reading about in the Sunday Independent.
