The Dudley Corporation
Reviews for 'Year of the Husband'

Irish Times
One listen to The Lens Begin or Step-Out and you'll realise it's time to fall in love with The Dudleys all over again. 4/5

Metro
Full of sly folk numbers, post-rock and wittily deconstructed takes on indie icons, Year of the Husband is a record of endless charms and considerable songwriting chops. 4/5

Clare People
A stunning comeback 9/10
- Andy Hamilton

Hot Press
Absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder. A convincing and rewarding return.

State
A seamless blend of understated beauty and frenzied rock. A band at the top of their game. 4/5

Irish Independent
The Lens Begin is especially smart, already one of this writer's favourite songs by an Irish act this year.

Subplots
"Step up, then, [Subplots]. Galvanisers of senses, the trio amble-onstage and sweep into the desolate post-rock that they magnificently proffer. Radiohead, Elbow, Low and even Sigur Rós are the lazy routes to defining [Subplots] sound- yet while elements of all these are palpable, there's something quite exciting and possibly groundbreaking lurking somewhere within"- NME

Night on Earth
"We met at the Sleepless night soul Club in May 2007. We've been preparing for our first live shows and a subsequent Album?! We practice our music in Smithfield fruit and vegetable market among the olive oil and the pounded yum. We're constantly hungry. We don't know where this musical journey will take us but hopefully it will include you"

Aye, o' course. Ahem.

And it's €10 plus fee from Road or WAV.

First band. What time? Need to know ...

This was great. I really wasn't in much of a gig mood to start with - as anyone that had the misfortune of speaking to me earlier will confirm - but that didn't take too long to change.

Night On Earth were cool - that voice brings on flashbacks to many a Barnstormers gig. The trumpet worked really, really well too. I'd not heard Subplots before. Very impressed - definitely looking forward to checking out some of their recorded stuff. Corpo were their deadly selves as usual, with a very nice rendition of Crumb's Fecky The Ninth towards the end.

I think a fair few hundred quid was raised for Aware, so winner all round.

Aye. Also respect to Whelans for foregoing the rental fee, NOE and Subplots too for playing for nowt.

Aye, great night. Very much enjoyed playing the Crumb song too, that might become one of our reg'lar tunes

hopefully we atoned for the bad andrews lane sound too!
