The Automatic are four teenagers whose songs are route maps to escaping the humdrum life of the small Welsh village of Cowbridge. Growing up on the edges of Cardiff they started playing together in primary school using sofas and 5 string guitars.
By the time they were 16 and staring at a future that said get a job or go to college, they knew making music was the antidote to, 'the automatic life', says Iwan, 'When we came up with the name The Automatic, the irony of us escaping that life, of not doing what was automatically expected of us meant a lot to all of us'.
Rob, Pennie, Iwan and Frost recorded some rough demos and soon attracted the interest and rapid signing to their management. The band then spent the second half of 2004 in rehearsal studios in Cardiff working on new material before starting gigging around the South Wales scene.
In May 2005 they went into studio to record demo versions of 'Monster' and 'Rats' with producer Richard Jackson which caught the ear of happening independent label B-Unique Records. They caught the band in June at Cardiff Barfly and, having been completely blown away by the show, a whirlwind romance followed and in July 2005 a deal was signed.
October 2005 and the band are on the road with The Ordinary Boys and Hard-Fi while their Ian Broudie produced debut single 'Recover' starts making waves with critics and fans alike. Then a return to Wales for a week of dates with the Goldie Looking Chain boys before settling down to write tracks for the album.
Taking only a brief break for Christmas Day and a sold-out live show at Cardiff Barfly on New Years Eve, the band launched into recording the album with Richard Jackson (60ft Dolls, Crashland, Super Furry Animals) in Cardiff and Steve Harris (U2, Kaiser Chiefs) in Liverpool and Lincoln.
With the album safely recorded the band head out on the road with The Kooks in Jan/Feb 2006 before their own UK headline tour and more dates with The Ordinary Boys leading up to the release of the stunning second single “Raoul” on 27th March 2006.
A third single and the album will follow together with more UK dates in June 2006 and festival appearances will follow in the summer.

DELORENTOS
Delorentos are a Dublin based alternative rock band. The four-piece have been together for less than two years and the Oct 2005 release of their 'Leave It On' EP gained the band a top 30 chart position in Ireland. With songs jointly and individually written by Ronán (guitar, vocals) and Kieran (guitar, vocals) in conjunction with Níal (bass, vocals) and Ross (drums, vocals) Delorentos' resultant sound ranges from soft acoustic melodies to angular, driven guitar rock. Riffs and rhythms combine to produce powerful, intimate and captivating tunes that have already won them a dedicated fan-base across the country through their regular live appearances.
Aside from headline shows the band have also played with the likes of Idlewild, Bell X1 and The Coral, the band recently played a storming set at "Other Voices: Songs from a Room" and were nominated for "Best New Irish Band" at the Irish Meteor awards in February. Their new single 'The Rules' will be release in May through cottage/delorecords.
Praise
Fuzzy guitar lines, duel vocals, infectious melodies... spiky, tight, indie punk."
NME, November 5th 2005
"Delorentos are a little special. They have a Ready Brek glow of gravitas, ability and that certain, peculiar something most bands simply don't possess."
Soundsxp.com, April 3rd 2005
"Hotly tipped and highly recommended"
Tom Dunne, PetSounds, TodayFM, December 2004
"Delorentos are a Dublin next-big-thing in the making, especially as their stage confidence and cockiness is increasing with every new memorable post-punk tune they write."
Jim Carroll, Irish Times, 29 August 2005 (HWCH review)
