This week sees the launch of Sarsparilla's long awaited debut album "Karahee" downstairs in Kennedys on Westland Row (just down from Pearse St DART Station.)
In 1997 Damien Lynch AKA Sarsparilla decided that, rather than sit around and listen to John Carpenter soundtracks recorded off the TV with a ghetto blaster, he could actually attempt to make some tunes himself. Influenced by 90's Warp records and eighties Electro and Hip Hop, concentrating less on software and more on outboard gear and classic drum machines.
"Karahee" (ABC008) shows a knack for melody as well as for rhythmic invention, but rather than mash up the beat, Sarsparilla lets it rock, inviting you to nod your head, or maybe even dance. "The Count" takes John Carpenter breaking, "Crumlin Thunder" sounds like a slow drive through the labyrinthine housing estates of Crumlin, and the title track is a homage to the synth soundtracks of his favourite 80s films.
He has been part of the Alphabet Set Collective since its conception, appearing on both of our compilation CDs, >Run and Wooden Educational, and has released one previous EP. Aside from our various monthly shows he has played livesets at Pogo, Maximum Joy, Electrotoxic/Diston, DEAF, Life Festival and the Mantua Festival in Ireland and Elektronika Fest in Holland.
"Karahee" will be available in CD format in all good record stores from Monday 10/09/07

Sarsparilla's album will be selling for a very reasonable 10 euro in shops and on the night
