i've never set up a myspace account before, and now that i finally try to do it, i can't get it to work, thereby comprehensively showing that every 15 year old goth in the universe is better at the internets than i am.
here's my problem. i went and set up a band account (the ones with the music player and stuff). all fine. when i log in, i get this (names blanked out to protect the innocent):
all fine so far, right?
so, then i go and click on the link at the bottom of that screenshot, the "pick your myspace name/url" one. i get to this page:
so, i enter the name i want, all fine, and click submit. it then takes me to this:
em - wtf!?! omg!?! rofl!?!
or rather - what's that all about? i've just entered a name, and now it's giving me a load of numbers. how odd.
however, i decide that i should probably soldier on - maybe the next page will reveal what's happened.
no such luck:
oh dear. that's not what i put in. that's not what i wanted. and now it's telling me that my new username and url are permanent! oh shit!
so, i decide that there's nothing i can do to remedy the situation at the moment. i am baffled. so, i click on the link for 'home'. but when the homepage loads up, something strange has happened - the option to pick a name/url is still there!
now, they've just told me that my new name/url is permanent and can't be changed, but now they're saying that i can change it. so, i go through the entire process over again, and exactly the same thing happens. pick name, get given numbers instead, get told numbers are permanent, then get told that i can still pick a name. i'm trapped in some kind of myspace loop where nothing is making sense. aarrrgghh! catch-22!
attempted remedies so far:
- delete browser cookies, log in again, try again, fail again.
- use a different browser (internet explorer, yuck), log in again, try again, fail again.
- email myspace customer support (ha! but, yes, i tried it.) got an automated reply that had nothing to do with what i'd asked. ho hum.
so, i 've been through this loop about five or six times now, and each time the result is exactly the same. has this happened to anyone else? does anyone know anything i can do to make it work?
