I was lookin' at the bassline thread and realised most of the tracks I was thinking of we're deadly because of the drums or breaks:

Eric B & Rakim - Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em

my favorite snare hit in rock is the one about 60 seconds into "that little sports car"by the shaggs. i think the line just before it is ï stepped on the gas and just made the corner, wow i was almost a goner (goner)" then theres a little gap and that magical snare slap. it exists independantly of any bassline

probably should get this out of the way now.. The Winstons - "Amen, Brother" - (1969)

with drums ridiculously high in the mix for reasons that will soon become absurdly obvious

I've Been Losing You by a-ha

at the end of the song (the album version at least, not sure about the single) theres a little angsty coda with a short gap between the two section. the main part ends, theres a second or two of a pause then a very short but ferocious drum fill. deadly, so it is. all the drumming on that song is deadly.
