The strange thing about country songs for me, is that while lyrically, they are undoubtedly sad, musically they often leave me unmoved. Unless, the artist has a killer voice, like Patsy Cline or someone.
Not sure if I posted this before but if I did here's a timely reminder that I am an eejit. This song tears me up an makes me tear up and I don't quite know why. It's basically repping for Lettermullen, a place I've not yet been. The album it comes from is largely as Gaeilge so this seems like such an oddity.

The narcissistic resignation that suffuses this song resonates a bit too much with me. It's basically First World Problems: The Musical. I have no clue how self aware the dude is, might be a double bluff, but he sounds like the biggest dickhead in these islands in the song. Anyway yeah this leaves me a mess. UK Blues 1 is good too but isn't quite as acutely painful.

This is my mum's favourite singer from when she was a young teenager and this is my favourite song of his. I always gravitated towards this song when I was a kid cause it was always playing in the house (even though my mum was into stuff like the Specials when she was older).
The lyrics floor me and it's so dark for what seems like a light hearted pop songs and the last verse in particular is heart breaking.
