Non type nerds, look away now...

*deep breath* Helvetica wasn't designed for screen use, it's got piss-all personality as a body font and most importantly of all, not every user will have it installed.

Georgia on the other hand is supremely legible at 12px while still hanging on to a bit of character, was designed with screen use in mind, and everyone's got it.

I don't buy the sans=modern thing either, and not just because I'm an argumentative twat (although that is true) - there's nothing intrinsically old-fashioned about serifs.

Any time the letter X is used, it should be in bold, because then it looks like it's from the future.

And while I'm at it, a nearly-black of #333333 type on white is your best bet if you want people to actually read the thing.

careful now, you're entering 'extremely incorrect' territory.

ah no. it's more a preference thing. I like sans serif for body. you're right about Helvetica not being for screen - but Verdana is. I don't like Georgia much. It's practically Times New Roman or Garamond. It has a place, but I wouldn't use it for this.

It's where I spend most of my time these days, but I do have a holiday home in Ballyflawless.

Georgia's far from my favourite font, but it's the best of a bad lot when it comes to web-safe type. I'd also maintain that it's a very different beast from TNR or Garamond, but that's a discussion for another day with a smaller hangover. Go on with your Verdana, but don't be surprised if you wake up dead from FontAIDS.

haha I don't think any of us wouldn't be surprised with that. We could always use a nice font for titles etc. as a gif or something - maybe something like DIN? It's nice and blocky. Great uppercase and lowercase too.

I don't have Gotham Rounded. Looks tasty. Nicer than Helvetica Rounded or Arial Rounded.

Cool. I'll adjust the banner in time to make it fit better.

Is it possible to give us access to the site so the lads can play with the fonts and colours and we can all agree on a look? "All agree" on something....hahahaha....?

Looks great. Now I don't want to open up old wounds, but have we decided on that name/domain then?
