Naive Ted misses kayfabe. He's mad for tea, wrestling, Wu-Tang and Steve Reich.

He is half of one man skratch duo Deviant & Naive Ted, and is at least partly responsible for an extensive back catalogue of surrealist hip-hop music. Notable releases include the trad folk skratch mess that is 'Send in the Hounds', the eponymous Vince Mack Mahon LP and the cult rap classic 'Orson Welles' with rhyme partner Sebi C.

Until relatively recently, Ted has been the silent partner in this relationship, content with his name on the credits and the occasional mention on twitter.

It was not until Community Skratch Games 2014 that Ted finally came out from the shadows to perform in public. His unique performances have since gained much notoriety in Irish music circles. In the last 12 months he has toured extensively with Rusangano Family to great acclaim, headlined at the Quarter Block Party in Cork and caused genuine mass hysteria upon his return to Community Skratch Games earlier this year.

As a wrestling fan, Naive Ted's biggest personal success to date occurred when he was commissioned to create the theme music for New Japan Pro Wrestling's Bullet Club faction. In January 2014, 35,000 people in Tokyo Dome witnessed the Bullet Club win the prestigious IWGP tag team titles accompanied by Deviant & Naive Ted's song 'Last Chance Saloon'.

He also provided several productions for MurLi's critically acclaimed 'Surface Tension' EP earlier this year - "a strong debut, built upon infectious beats" (TheLastMixedTape, Jan. 2015)

Naive Ted's debut LP, 'The Inevitable Heel Turn' has long gestated. Originally scheduled for release earlier in the year, Ted's ambition was not sated and the initial masters were scrapped and whole songs ripped up.

It emerges now as a different beast altogether, a dense kaleidoscope of muted technicolour where shy aggression sits alongside paranoid bliss. A caress in a choke hold. A nice cuppa tea in the Gaza strip.

It's not for everybody.

Press

"...the uniqueness in style on here makes pretty damn certain there shan’t be much in the way of imitators. Nothing out there sounds like the Flying Buttresses and in a time when rap oriented hip-hop is becoming more and more narrowly defined, such straying from the norm should get the praise it deserves."
(State.ie, Oct. 2012)

"There's an integrity to every angle of his game"
(mynameisjOhn on whatyouregoingtosee.com, Jan. 2015)

"...a gravestone-heavy set of boom-bap beats and live scratching...backs up his status as one of Ireland’s hip-hop heavyweights. No presumptions or fucking around here, just some great samples from all over pop-culture, dextrous turntablism, and a command of crowd control from behind the decks comparable to the luchadors he patterns himself after."
(Thin Air Magazine, Feb. 2015)
