ALL YOU CAN BEAT presents the next gig which takes place in The Belvedere Hotel, Great Denmark street, Dublin 1 on Saturday May 13th.
The show features the internationally renowned DJ/Rupture (Soot, Tigerbeat6 records) with live support from Filastine (Soot, Entartete Kunst records).
DJ /rupture's first big break came in 2001 with Gold Teeth Thief, a mixtape which mixes hip-hop, ragga, breakcore and world music. His second mixtape Minesweeper Suite was an even greater success, with the UK music magazine The Wire calling it one of the 10 best records of 2003. A year later he released Special Gunpowder, his most critically acclaimed album to date. In 2005 he performed with the Cataluynan National Symphonic Orchestra at Sonar festival in Barcelona, Spain.
As his music would suggest DJ Rupture has a wide variety of influences. From Japanese noise to The Pixies, musique concrete, hiphop, North African sounds, ragga, raihis. His musical taste is eclectic to say the very least.
DJ/Rupture owns and runs Soot Records which has being described as "a strike against geography" as releases on this label seek to cross the borders of artificial musical genres. DJ/Rupture also has a strong affiliation with the record label Tigerbeat 6 in America which is run by electronic music legend Kid 606.
Filastine creates music and live sets that wreckgenre, charting a new sonic map through a synchronicity of hiphop, ragga, breakcore. and international obscurra. Filastine began performing under his alias in 2004 after years of building beats, recording with collaborative musicians, gathering noise with binaural microphones, sampling cassettes from street stalls, and studying percussion. The result is a deterritorialization of sound that embraces the intense, wherever it's origin, with disregard for the ghettoes of electronic music.
The core of a Filastine live performance consists of a laptop and controllers where tracks are mashed and remixed live. Added to this are live perscussion, remote loudspeakers controlled by FM transmitters, and, frequently, a guest vocalist or mc. equipmet is sometimes mounted in a shopping cart or otherwise delivered via a custom mobile sound sytem. In the last year Filastine has performed in clubs, festivals, and underground spaces across the earth.
