recommend an external firewire drive to use for recording (1 Viewer)

chill out!

course it is .......
glyph are without the doubt the best..........reliability
most ppl are scared of lacie but personally ive never had 1 go down on me
but some ppl have. ive worked with literally 100's and never had em go down.
glyph all the way, ive never heard of 1 going down.

PC...it used to be fast!
it's a toshiba satellite pro...it's about 4 year old now though...still works grand

i don't do very much home recording - mostly only used for recording live jams from one mic (we're cavemen like that) - so just wondering if this'd be quick enough to get the shit down....i mostly need it (external HD) for freeing up space, thsi would be a nice bonus

???

it's doable. not recommended though.

i've used my LaCie 200GB firewire drive wih a firewire800 but playing back loads of tracks from it whilst recording to it can cause wee stalls and audio drop outs i found. was using cubase and Logic Express. changed to my internal and never had that problem again. id recommend LaCie after having a Maxtor, a Seagate and a Lidl one all crap out on me. LaCie one is deadly otherwise

it would be grand for that. i was thinkin in terms of titloads of simultaneous tracking

this is about as chilled out as i will probably ever get (the guy in the brown)

Personally, I'd do as Ernesto suggested and move everything off onto the external drive and record direct to your internal hd.
Your internal drive definitely has a faster read/write speed than usb2 or firewire.
If you want, bring an external drive with you and backup the project onto it as you're going - just in case you drop the laptop or the drive :)
