Reading While Listening to Music (1 Viewer)

Just wondered about this the other day after a chat with herself. Do you listen to music while reading or do you find it a major distraction?
If you do, what works and what doesn't? If not, why not?
That's the general jist of this thread.

Massive distraction for me. When I listen to music, my mind can only be on the music. I can't listen to music if I'm doing anything else. I need to work in silence, though I can read if there's a telly on in the same room, just as long as it's something I don't have to pay any attention.

I generally have Lyric on in the background and it's fine once they stick to the classical/baroque. Once they move into jazz or whatever I have to switch it off.
While studying/writing I find that Gregorian chant/general church music is great once it's not too involved.

As long as there is no singing then I can read away. It's the internet that stops me reading.

Can read with or without music, can listen to music with or without reading. Find it much easier to write with music.

mostly always read to music, but nothing with singing or that has an any way kind of heavy beat to it.

Stars of the Lids/DJ Koze/Bonobo - that kind of thing.

Quiet instrumental / classical at a push. But silence is golden.

I do a lot of reading on the bus, and it's people yabbering into their phones that distracts me the most.

Oddly enough, I can zone out it all out in a noisy cafe
