Looks like the holocaust memorial in Berlin, but I may be wrong.

i agree with your first point. if it weren't for thumped i would have totally overlooked taking pictures as a hobby. thumped pictures rule.

re: the bench, thanks! we'd been having sandwiches under the gazebo and the tourists kept kinda looking at me warily as i had the camera round my neck. i guess i was lucky to pounce at the right moment.
