Uh, depends. It might have a low latency monitoring facility, which is where the input is routed straight to the headphones so you avoid latency that way. You'll have to ask Mr. Manual. Otherwise, it'll be a case of adjusting buffer size and so on to get a good balance there. Higher sample rates = lower latency, too.
 
Seventh Circle Audio make some nice kits, too. Heard some great stuff about theirs. I'd have a real good look into how on the ball his designs are, and I'd definitley want more than one person really liking how they sound before I dived in.
 
The Focusrite trakmaster platinum is the shit: 3 band EQ, (pre or post compressor) compressor, phantom power, warm tube sound.
I use on pretty much all our multi-tracking. It's fantastic on vocals and acoustic guitars. The compressor makes DIing bass a doddle.
You can switch it to line input to use an insert while mixing.
Money well spent.
