his best so far, by a long shot
.|..| is right

dunno would i agree with that...but sure holds some songs as good as his best. its actually his most daring i think. lots of styles on there.
"kilburn stroll" is my current fave.

superb live performer. seen him a rake of times in various places and sizes of venue but i'll never forget seeing him cover Thin Lizzy in the bar in Whelans before Isis played. outstanding.

think maasai, kilburn stroll, your pretty smile, serious (heh), to hell or barbados, the city and i don't care are my favourites....which is about half the album...oh, chase the light is good too, and how strange. er..almost the whole thing then. i guess it stands apart from previous albums so maybe not particularly useful to directly compare, if i could only take one DD album from a burning house though this would probably be it, though it would be nice to take seize the day as well. or i might just grab my ipod and laptop.
i'd love to see him live, he plays fuckloads of gigs in all kinds of mad culchie places as well, imagine being a teenager in manorhamilton and getting to see damo in the village hall!

the funny thing about the whole 'hell or barbados' topic is the irish were slave-owners as well as slaves in the caribbean (on montserrat) and were at least as bad a shower of bastards as the english. google montserrat and have a look at some of the place-names etc - part of the southern landscape is called 'galway's wall', paddy's day is a national holiday and it used to be called the emerald isle of the caribbean.
oh, also google 'if the irish ran the world: montserrat 1630-1730', to find blurb/reviews of a book about the whole thing.

oh yeah something else mad, there was a story about a ship with crewmen from cork docking at montserrat and finding the afro-caribbean dockworkers speaking irish! fucking mad! don't think anyone speaks the garlic there anymore though.
