An ex-girlfriend was telling me a story once about her day in work. She said "So, I lifted the box off the shelf". I laughed and said "you lifted it?" Confused, she said "Yeah. Why?"
I said "you laft the box. The word is laft not lifted"

At first she didn't believe me but after some persuasion and a very straight face from me she resumed her story.

"So, I........ laft...... the box off the shelf".

I nodded approvingly and the story continued on.

I forgot to tell her I was only joking. I wonder if she ever made a fool of herself with it anywhere.
