Gerd Muller lethal finishing turned Bayern Munich from the second club in Munich (not invited to join the Bundesliga in 1962 but 1860 Munich were) to the become the dominant force German football.

He won Three European Cups 1974-76 and scored a record 365 Bundesliga goals in 427 games.

For West Germany Gerd was a World Cup winner in 1974 on home soil scoring the winner in the Final against Holland. In his two World Cups he scored 14 goals including 10 in Mexico 1970.
Muller also a European Champ with WG in 1972.
He refused to play for West Germany again after no provisions were made for the player's partners to attend the 1974 Final victory dinner or join any of the celebrations.
In 62 caps he scored 68 goals.

After football Gerd had a tough time with alcoholism and later suffered with Alzheimer's.

I had written something longer on Gerd Muller above but lost the text when the internet went down here and I wasn't logged in.
Uschi Muller Gerd's wife was always with him until the end whatever state his life was in.
Gerd finished as a player in the NASL with Fort Lauderdale Strikers where he played alongside George Best who he didn't get along with.
In the early 90's Bayern helped Gerd out giving him a coaching job and at the 2006 World Cup in Germany he was in demand for appearances where he was looking better. Sadly his life ended as many other footballer did with a long battle with Alzheimers.
