I thought hell is bound to be a livelier place, as he joins forever those whom he served in life, applauding their prejudices and fanning their hatred

Yeah, it was all because of The Celluloid Closet - brilliant doco.
Heston, being a right wing nut job, flipped out. I only kinda knew who Gore Vidal was at the time. Fucking loved the guy after that.

Aww, Robert Hughes was a brilliant man. Shock of the New was one of the few 'textbooks' I kept (instead of selling back for cash) after college.
