I read the first 50 or 60 pages of The Catcher in the Rye a few years ago when I was on a piss-up weekend in London. It was beside the bed. This is an insight into my life, it should be quite touching to read.
Anyway, I was enjoying the book but I had to get up to go and get a fry-up. It was a book I avoided as a youngster becasue I thought I was better than everyone else. For similar reasons, I've never read On The Road or The Lord of the Rings. I'm a real asshole, see. Never returned to finish the book and I doubt I will.

I've read bits and pieces of A People's History, I'm now going to get it and read it in full to honour the dead man.

I only read Catcher in the Rye cos my girlfriend of the time told me I had to read it before I was finished school or it was meaningless. I think i liked it but it obviously didn't have the intended effect cos I can't remember most of it. Maybe I am the real idiot

Funnily enough, I also read Catcher in the Rye as a teenager and wasn't too impressed either. Read it about two or three years ago and now think it's one of the best books I've read. Ok that isn't funny enough but give it another go.
